What Sydney venues actually cost in 2026 — from checking every one by hand
We checked event venues right across Sydney and NSW — every one against its own website, function pack or hire conditions. The single most useful thing we learned: fewer than half publish any price at all. The rest make you enquire first.
That is not an accident. "Price on application" lets a venue quote to the room — the same Saturday can be quoted differently depending on your event, your numbers, and how flexible you sound. Knowing the going rate before you enquire is the strongest card you can hold.
The going rates, from our checked data
Hire fees (you pay for the space, then everything else on top): we found 28 venues with published hire fees. The median is $880, and the spread is enormous — from $30 for a scout hall hour to $20,000 for a five-star ballroom.
Per-person packages (food and drink built in): 16 venues publish these. The median is $55 a head, running from $10 barefoot-bowls sessions to $215 a head at a Hunter Valley sparkling house.
Minimum spends (the room is "free" if your guests eat and drink enough): 6 venues publish theirs, from $300 at a neighbourhood pub dining room to $30,000 for a Southern Highlands estate.
Brilliant events under $1,000 genuinely exist

Nineteen of our checked venues have published hire from four figures down:
- 1st/2nd Blacktown Scout Hall — from $30 (yes, thirty dollars)
- Condell Park Community Hall — from $42
- Stockton Bowling Club — $55 an hour, beach across the road
- Harold Park Community Hall — from $81
- North Sydney Community Centre — from $140
- Wylie's Baths — from $200, a heritage ocean pool
- Q Station — from $500, inside Sydney Harbour National Park
- Clark Island — $880 for your own harbour island (plus boat transfers)
- Tamarama SLSC — $990 right on the sand
The pattern: community halls, bowlos, surf clubs and public-land venues publish prices; hospitality groups mostly don't.
What to ask when the price is hidden
When a venue quotes on enquiry, get all four numbers before you compare: the hire fee, the minimum spend, cleaning and security charges, and corkage if you plan to bring drinks. A "cheap" room with a steep minimum spend can cost more than an "expensive" one with none.
